That's about what it costs to air an ad during the local news here in Denver. $900 for every 30-second spot.
When you see some candidates airing 30 second ads two or three times an hour during campaign season--on at least 4 channels--it adds up quick. $60K and up per night to drive everyone watching fucking nuts. Per candidate.
Multiply that by the 100+ days that these ads generally air (over and over and over again--they tend to put as little money as possible into actual production of the ads so they can spend as much as possible on airtime), and that's over $6 million--to run a campaign in one mid-sized market. That's just for the TV ads.
That's ridiculous.
What Would It Take?
Today I received a mass e-mail from my former State Senator, Ken Gordon. Mr Gordon is also my former Colorado House Representative, as well as my former state Senator. He was term-limited out of both houses, and now works as a defense attorney and is very active in the Colorado Democratic Party, advocating for issues and candidates that he feels are worthy of our support. He is one of the few politicians that I have ever met that was open, responsive to his constituents, and willing to buck either party's establishment if he thought that it was in his constituents best interests.
He has also never taken a dime in political contributions from PACs or business interests, and only supports candidates who do the same.
He is now supporting Andrew Romanoff in the upcoming Democratic primary for Colorado's open Senate seat, which was vacated by current Secretary of the Interior, Ken Salazar. Former Denver Public Schools
Superintendent Michael Bennet was appointed by Governor Bill Ritter to fill his seat, and now must run if he wants to keep his seat.

Now's the Time to Strike

Stick your Austerity Program here is a simple solution to our financial problems and it will end foreign domination of our product lines from food to cars. Short term pain perhaps, but if you fast enough or are already prepared for Shit to Happen then this is the answer

A drastic devaluation of the dollar as demonstrated by Iceland solves the problem of trying to pay off the debt run up trying to save the financial system (the same system that screwed itself) by doing it with cheap dollars.
Not only that but a big consideration of mine is accomplished by devaluing the dollar making imported goods way to expensive so we would have to reopen closed factories , put million back to work, increase tax revenue ,allow seniors to live in comfort, and return a large part of the 22% unemployed back to work. Hell , we might be able to rebuild destroyed cities , the possibilities are endless.
Ok, you know somebody has to pay the price, yep , that's true and guess who gets stuck this time. The very same people who caused the mess in the first place. Poor dears, will be reduced to a million bucks or two. I feel their pain...LOL

Presidential Rankings
Another poll of Presidential scholars. Another subjective ranking of US Presidents.
I don't suppose that I qualify as a "Presidential scholar", but Presidential history is something of a hobby of mine. For some reason, I am quite drawn to the stories and careers of these 43 men, 42 of whom were white.
The rankings in this particular poll:
1. Franklin D. Roosevelt
2. Theodore Roosevelt
3. Abraham Lincoln
4. George Washington
5. Thomas Jefferson
